Cancer Moonshot

Recently, the White House announced a new $1 billion program to hopefully defeat cancer called the National Cancer Moonshot.  This is exciting news to us here at the Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina.  Whether you know somebody who has been affected by cancer or you yourself have been through the battle, we all know how devastating it can be.  Below are a few key points to know about this new initiative:

• Will accelerate research efforts by enhancing data access and facilitating collaboration
• Hopes to bring a decade’s worth of advances in five years
• $195 million is planned for fiscal year 2016
• Major focuses on:
  • Prevention and vaccine development
  • Early detection
  • Cancer immunotherapy and combination therapy

On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Vice President Joe Biden will be right here in the state of North Carolina as part of his listening tour for the initiative.  He will be at Duke University and more details of his visit are coming soon.
