How Your Money is Spent

Your support is improving survivorship and providing assistance to those affected by lung cancer. We accomplish this through research, awareness, education and access programs across North Carolina.

Responsible Stewards:

We are proud of our record of responsibility with the funds we raise, and we pledge to maintain that standard while increasing advocacy across our state.

Of every dollar raised, 81 cents directly supports the following programs:

Since 2008, we have funded over $1.1 million in lung cancer research. This support has jump-started the careers of researchers who have gone on to receive continued funding for their work from the National Institute of Health, Department of Defense, and the American Cancer Society.  In 2016, we committed to funding $325,000 in lung cancer research across the state. Learn more here about the researchers we have funded

Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina is committed to increasing public awareness about lung cancer.  We do so through our Events, Education & Outreach Initiatives as well as other grassroots opportunities. Our goal is to let everyone affected by lung cancer know that there is HOPE. Contact us on how you can help in spreading awareness about this disease!

Expert Speaker Series

Through partnerships with North Carolina’s leading cancer centers, the Expert Speaker Series allows for patients and their families to come together to hear from experts on topics related to lung cancer and research. Past topics include: Updates in Lung Cancer Research and a panel discussion on Multidisciplinary Care, clinical trials and survivorship.   Join us for our next Expert Speaker Event.

Physician Education

We provide educational opportunities for health care professionals throughout North Carolina in order to improve diagnosis, referral and treatment.  Click here to learn more about upcoming opportunities for physician education.

Materials Distribution

Lung Cancer Initiative has distributed free print and online materials to patients and physician offices, which provide vital information to help patients and their families better understand their diagnosis of lung cancer and how to find help and receive the best care available on their lung cancer journey.  Help us distribute information!

Patient Access to Care Gas Card

This program provides assistance to lung cancer patients while seeking treatment including clinical trials.  The goal of the program is to lessen the financial burden for patients to receive appropriate lung cancer treatment by providing gas cards. To date we have given out over 1,000 gas cards to patients across the state.  We will be giving out another 300 cards in 2016.  Learn more about our Gas Card Program.

Access Grant Program

The Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina is currently awarding two Access Grants up to $10,000 each to assist institutions with improving access to lung cancer screening, treatment, clinical trials, molecular testing or precision medicine for uninsured or underinsured individuals.
