A Message from Lung Cancer Initiative Regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Lung Cancer Initiative appreciates the severity of the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, and the new coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19). As we are dedicated to serving the needs of people with lung cancer and their loved ones, we are closely monitoring the latest developments related to the outbreak and responding accordingly.

In an effort to keep the best interests of those we serve at heart, we are making alternate plans for several of our upcoming events.  Below are a few updates, and we will continue to revise as needed:

  • Lung Cancer Initiative's office will be closed beginning Monday, March 16.  Staff will be working remotely and available via telecommunications during regular office hours.
  • Our Power Up Series “Research Update” is now rescheduled for June 17 at the same location, The Solution Center in Durham, NC.
  • Our Power Up Series program at Levine Cancer Institute originally scheduled in April is being postponed, and we are currently working to identify a date.
  • Our Charlotte LUNGe Forward 5K Run, Walk & Rally is no longer occuring on March 28 at McAlpine Creek Park.  We will be providing opportunities for participants to support the event virtually and are planning a celebration on Saturday, October 10 at McAlpine Creek Park.
  • Our Evening of Hope Gala: Penguins & Pearls, originally scheduled for April 25 is being rescheduled for Saturday, July 18 at North Ridge Country Club.  More details will be forthcoming.

We also want to ensure that our constituents have access to the most credible guidance for their protection and the protection of their loved ones.  Please see the below update on information for people diagnosed with lung cancer and their loved ones by lung cancer specialist Jennifer Garst, MD, Board Chair of Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina.
