Hi there, my name is Jenni Danai and I am the Chief Mission Delivery Officer at Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI)! Most of you know me after working for LCI for the past eight years. I live in Raleigh with my husband and our two daughters. While I tell people that I am from Illinois, I actually spent my childhood moving all across the United States. I landed in Raleigh when I was in high school, and have called the Triangle home ever since. I studied public health in my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and I have really enjoyed working in the public health sector for over 20 years. Through our work, I really feel like I have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.
I started working at Lung Cancer Initiative in January 2013 when it was still named North Carolina Lung Cancer Partnership. In my first six months, we broke off from a national organization, formalized Lung Cancer Initiative as an independent statewide nonprofit, and began developing programs for our local North Carolina community. You could say that it was a busy time to join LCI! I really enjoyed playing a part in forming the branding, making decisions, and developing many of the programs that have grown and expanded into what we offer to our lung cancer community today.
Back when LCI began developing programs in my first few months with the organization, I worked with Tomma Hargraves to start the Access to Care Gas Card program. The program began with $10,000 that Tomma raised from one of the LUNGe Forward events. Today we provide $25,000 worth of gas cards to lung cancer patients every year! Looking back now, it blows me away how far this program and others have grown over the past eight years. It is so exciting to see how many more lung cancer survivors we are reaching.
My family always looks forward to supporting LCI at fundraising events, particularly at the Evening of Hope Gala. I love bidding on silent auction items and having fun with all of you! But the best part is the inspiration and hope that you walk away with. We are all playing a part in making life better for those affected by lung cancer!
